Landscape Toolbox
The Idaho Chapter of The Nature Conservancy is working with both public and private land management partners to develop a set of analytical and monitoring tools, the Landscape Toolbox, which are designed to enable better rangeland management at landscape scales by integrating existing and emerging remote sensing and predictive modeling methods for assessment, monitoring, and planning.
High Desert Sagebrush Cooperative
A coalition of groups interested in landscape scale management of sagebrush steppe in southeastern Oregon and adjacent parts of Idaho and Nevada. The Sagebrush Cooperative provides data, references and contacts specific to High Desert ecosystems.
Scope
While the results should be useful for work in rangeland systems around the globe, the Methods Guide was created with and for managers of shrub steppe ecosystems of the southern Columbia Plateau and northern Great Basin ecoregions (southern Idaho, southeast Oregon and northern Nevada).
The guide is in the early phases of development so the subjects addressed at this time are limited in scope. The current focus is on upland shrub steppe vegetation and topics include grazing management, vegetation mapping, weeds, juniper encroachment, seral stage and condition, and some limited treatment of wildlife habitat concerns. In the future we hope to expand the system to consider more topics and attributes of rangeland management. We welcome your feedback on important topics and questions to add to the system.
